Changing the line “Joomla! is Free Software released under the GNU/GPL License.” is easy, here's how:

First, the line at the bottom (called the ‘footer’) that begins with “Joomla! is Free Software…” is part of the Joomla 1.5 system and not part of your chosen template. Changing it or removing it simply involves editing a Joomla ini file.

Go into the following folder on your Joomla site:    /language/en-GB/

Find the file:    en-GB.mod_footer.ini

Edit this file and change the line which says “FOOTER_LINE2=” simply delete the words "Joomla! is Free Software released under the GNU/GPL License." You can either delete it (after the = sign) or replace it with the HTML of your choice.

Now just upload the file (if you didn’t already edit it on your web hosts server) and you’ll no longer have the “Joomla! is Free Software released under the GNU/GPL License.” appearing at the bottom of the page.
